NEM Symbol 0.10.0.5 release note is published on NEM’s forum. The announcement also included new information about testnet reset. With the latest version, the NEM community is becoming ready for the Symbol blockchain’s official launch.
The latest release contains multiple core components of the blockchain. Servers, testament status, wallets, SDKs, and many more parts experienced significant changes in the newest version of Symbol.
Getting Ready for the First Official Version
Blockchain projects rely heavily on testnets and partial releases for improvements. They publish beta versions of the network for developers and testers to see and analyze the components. The improvement process continues as testers are working on the testnet. Every time a significant change happens on core components and products, release notes are published to explain them.
Symbol is the biggest project from NEM that focuses on enterprise-level services. The blockchain will launch in 2021 and is in the final stages of development. The latest release, 0.10.0.5, is about core components getting ready for use. Although the blockchain is still in the testnet phase, some practical pieces like desktop wallets are ready to use.
Every new version in testnets often comes with a full reset. It means that all data and records will be deleted. It’s the reason that most of the blockchains don’t recommend using testnets for the final products. The new version of Symbol testnet follows this path, too.
One of the new Symbol version’s essential changes is that the users can connect Community Nodes to it. The release note says that the initial sync with the testnet will take about 3-5 hours.
As mentioned before, some parts may not work correctly on testnets. The release note says:
“It is important to flag that any of the old tools (CLI, Bootstrap, SDKs, Wallets, etc.) may not connect to this new network, or may error if they do. Similarly, the new tools in this release may not support the old Testnet running 0.10.0.4. There are breaking changes. Most community members will want the new network.”
Symbol blockchain can become a crucial milestone in the NEM roadmap. It’s an independent blockchain with specific use-cases. With a focus on enterprises, Symbol can become a practical solution for those companies that want to enter the decentralized world. But the blockchain is still in the initial steps, and we have to wait for some time to see the network’s features in action.
